Celebrity Geezers Theme

OVER
THE HILL PARTY
IDEA:
Despite what those folks at "American Idol" think, some of the world's most beloved famous faces are geezers, including Julia Child, Walter Cronkite, Diane Keaton, Sean Connery, Cher, Bill Murray, Andy Rooney, the entire PGA Senior tour, etc. Your party can be a celebration of those who are (or were) still "going strong" long after youth has gone.
PARTY DECORATION IDEAS:
Celebrities love the "red carpet" treatment, but that doesn't mean you have to invest a fortune in 20-foot long runner in virgin wool! (They don't even do that at the Oscars.) Instead, tape together a series of red poster board squares to create a "carpet" to your doorway. For some real pizzazz, a great idea is to go to the hardware store and buy some super-bright lights to use like the Kleig lights (spotlights) that you see at movie premieres. Just be sure that they're aimed towards the sky so that you don't blind your guests!
Inside, you can decorate the house with pictures of "mature" movie
stars. Buy a bunch of old (or new) movie or fan magazines, tabloids, and film posters. Create your own Tinsel Town with garland, tinsel and lights from your Christmas tree. For special charm, make giant stars out of cardboard, cover them in tinfoil, and put the name of each guest on one. You can suspend them from the ceiling or create your own "Hollywood Walk of Fame" by placing them on the floor.
PARTY MUSIC IDEAS:
Try and select music performed by geezers like Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, and Rosemary Clooney. Another option would be to play soundtracks from movies and TV shows that starred Celebrity Geezers.
THEME PARTY INVITATIONS:
Guests should be invited to come as their favorite Celebrity Geezer. It's a great opportunity for creativity. People who like to play "dress up" can wear their fancy duds or go to a thrift shop and look for vintage "glam-wear." And for folks who don't like to dress up, there are plenty of "plain and simple" Celebrity Geezers (like Kate Hepburn) who always dressed down.
GEEZER PROPS:
Wherever you find celebrities, you find autograph hounds and the Geezer's adorable
Autograph Dog is a charming thing to have guests sign when they arrive.
OVER THE HILL GIFT SUGGESTION:
Celebrities love their luxury and what could be more luxurious than a hot water bottle in faux
mink? Funny and functional, it's a great gift to present to the evening's "honoree."
PARTY SCENARIO:
With so many guests in fancy dress, it's fun to do a more formal party. As guests arrive, announce their arrival in typical Hollywood fashion through a
"mega-phone" (At
the ear, it is used as a hearing
aid!).
There is some fantastic "Aged
To Perfection" matching party
ware available at Gifts for Geezers too.
After guests arrive and sign in, invite them to enjoy cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. When everyone has arrived, sit down to dinner. If you have kids, press them into service as waiters and waitresses. Dress them all in black and give them white gloves for a "formal look." After dinner, let the games begin!
THEME PARTY RECIPES:
Bubbly
Beverage Buffet - If Dom Perignon is a little out of your reach,
substitute all the other "bubblies" you can think of --
sparkling apple cider, Perrier water, ginger ale.
Sunshine
Beverage Buffet - Let's face it. Most celebrity geezers have
chosen to spend their "golden years" where the sun is shining
and the air is warm. Salute the sunshine states -- California,
Arizona, Florida -- with a fruit juice buffet. Have lots of the
standards like orange juice and grapefruit juice and mixers like club
soda. To really jazz things up, bring in exotic taste treats like
peach nectar or pomegranate juice. Of course, a Geezer party
wouldn't be complete without some
prune
juice
as a chaser!
GAMES OR GUEST INTERACTION:
Since most of your guests will probably come as their favorite actors and actresses, give them a chance to be "on stage" with a lively game of charades.
Another great game is "Who Am I?" Each guest has a different celebrity's name on his/her back and they have to ask one another Yes and No questions to try and figure out who they are.
If you need to guide your party goers into laughter,
try the Over
the Hill Bingo game. Hilarious!
If you want awards for your game winners, some great
inexpensive stuff is available. Try Cheap
Geezer Gifts, Gifts
for Her, or Gifts
for Him. There are 24 separate cheap gifts that
will keep the laughter rolling until the next party!
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Celebrities can't seem to get enough awards -- Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Tonys, etc., etc., etc. Make your guests feel like the stars they are by presenting everyone with an award at the end of the evening.
Party
Ribbons are an easy solution. And if you have
time to make your own, it doesn't have to be expensive -- cover little figures with gold spray paint and give out
"The Geezer Award for….(Best Hairpiece; Fewest Wrinkles; Most
Still-Concealed Secrets; Biggest Flirt)" during a little presentation ceremony that will conclude the evening.
OUR PARTY DESIGNER: Debbie Feldstein spent ten years as
Executive Director of the New York office of the Emmy Awards where, in
addition to other duties, she was responsible for creating presentation
ceremonies, press conferences, nomination announcement ceremonies, and a
broad spectrum of activities from ultra-luxe to plain-and-simple. This
"party girl" has turned her creative talents to help us old
timers provide theme parties for GiftsForGeezers.com.
